Hernán “Nan” Joubá (b. Hernán Jourdan, 1987) is an Argentinean-born director of artistic projects and cultural producer. Trained in theater in Buenos Aires and filmmaking at Tokyo Visual Arts, he has undertaken projects for the stage, film and television –collaborating as a performer, writer, producer and director.
Over the last decade, Nan Joubá’s practice emerged in public and private spaces, intervening museum galleries, abandoned buildings, and rural landscapes. Today, he maintains an interdisciplinary practice centering theater, video and writing traditions for collective transformation.
Among other honors, Nan Joubá is a National Arts Strategies Fellow (Creative Community New England); a MacColl Johnson Fellow (Creative Writing) and a Creative Entrepreneurship Fellow at the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston. He’s been a writer-in-residency at Studios at MassMoCA; Cité Internationale des Arts; The Wedding Cake House; and Swale House in Governors Island, NYC. As a grantee, he’s been a part of programs by DESIGNxRI; the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA); Department of Art, Culture + Tourism of Providence (AC+T); the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities (RICH) as well as the Rhode Island Council on the Arts (RISCA) and is a scholarship recipient from the Japanese Ministry of Culture and Education (MEXT). As a grant panelist, he’s served at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA, 2021/23); the Latinx New Play Festival by La Jolla Playhouse, CA (2024); and the National Association for Latino Arts & Culture (NALAC, 2023) among others.
